yesterday i posted a studio shot of kiera, but here she is after her shoot.  she would much rather relax than pose for the camera.  and….i agree with her.

she’s a very sweet 9 year old dog.

meet kiera! she’s new in town. her mom just moved here with a new job. (congrats by the way)

you may notice this is the first official “studio shot” at dog daily.  well, tomorrow night will be a non-studio shot of kiera, so please come back.  she’s a total love!

anyway, she and her mom came in for head shots with one of the photographers for the new company. the photographer, chris mooney said, “hey if you’re gonna take her picture, try my flash and use the studio lighting.”  so i did.

two unrelated dogs. one purebred border collie from a breeder, one border collie mix from rescue. they have seen eachother for one hour for the past 3 sundays.

shoulders down. paws relaxed. left ear down, right ear up.

in the background you have a german shepherd dog playing with his boomer ball.   an indestructible ball.  barking, scratching, pouncing, pushing, chasing.

in the foreground you have a beagle trying to play fetch with a woman who won’t put her camera down.  there were some crazy catches.

…and some interesting ears.

the last dog we encountered on our wine tour was much more outgoing.  we even had him sit in on a couple of our family photos.  don’t know his name, only know that he was definitely an intricate part of this wineries marketing staff and customer service team.

oh, and the wine was very tasty….

of the four wineries we visited yesterday, only two had dogs that were around for the public to see.  by the time we got to the last vineyard it had started raining again.  this very large brindle mix seemed excited to find one of our party under the eves for a respite from the rain and a bit of ear rubbing.  he left the most perfect paw print.

with the exception of this one dog, all the dogs seemed pretty disinterested in cuddling strangers.  and we were a pack of dog lovers.  the main reason i took my camera is because i wanted to see dogs.  they just must be immune to the steady stream of drunkards.

today we celebrated r. and a.h.’s wedding by taking a tour of some vinyards. i was hoping more dogs would be at the tastings, but no. here was one. he was so aloof he actually left when b. and a.h. tried to snuggle him.

i found him on the way out and he let me take many shots and rub his face. he just seems old and sad.

i have posted a few pics of these portuguese water dogs, but i really didn’t know much about them, other than they were beautiful and energetic dogs.  so i popped on to wikipedia and learned that they actually can herd fish into fishing nets.   but the breed is what you consider a rare dog breed.

this is pickles’ friend, milo.  he’s a little bit older than her, but they get on ok.  they play well together until the other border collie gets to the puppy play time. then, i hate to say this, pickles kind of forsakes him for a more rough and tumble play session with cora.
